UC International First Year Undergraduate Scholarships

Brief description:
The University of Canterbury offers the UC International First Year Scholarship to top-achieving international students commencing an undergraduate degree programme at the University.

Scholarship value/duration:
The scholarship is currently awarded with values of $10,000, $15,000 or $20,000. The duration is for one year.
Eligibility:
Eligible candidates must be full-fee-paying international students and may not be citizens of New Zealand or Australia, or holders of New Zealand residence class visas. They must be completing, or have completed on or after 1 January of the year before the year of application, a University Entrance-level qualification that permits entry into a University of Canterbury undergraduate degree programme. 
Candidates must have applied for admission to the University by 15 August in the year prior to their intended first year of enrolment at the University.

ADB Scholarships at University of Auckland

Brief description:
The ADB-Japan Scholarship programme aims to provide an opportunity for well-qualified citizens of ADB’s developing member countries to undertake postgraduate studies in economics, management, science and technology, and other development-related fields at participating academic institutions in the Asia-Pacific region. The University of Auckland is one of the participating academic institution.

Target group:
Nationals of an ADB borrowing member
Scholarship value/inclusions:
The ADB-JSP provides for the scholar’s tuition fees, airfare to and from Auckland, basic cost of living, health and medical insurance, and a special grant for thesis preparation (for scholars engaged in research).
Eligibility:
You must:
  • • Be a national of an ADB borrowing member. For a list of current developing member countries visit ADB – Japan Scholarship Programme.
  • • Have gained admission to an approved masters at an approved academic institution.
  • • Have a bachelors degree or its equivalent with a superior academic record.
  • • Have at least two years of full-time professional work experience (acquired after a university degree) at the time of application.
  • • Be proficient in oral and written English communication skills to be able to pursue studies.
  • • Be under 35 years old at the time of application. In exceptional cases, for programmes which are appropriate for senior officials and managers, the age limit is 45 years
  • • Be in good health.
  • • Agree to return to your home country after completing the programme.
Application instructions:
Only after you have gained admission to an eligible postgraduate programme listed above for the 2018 intake and received an Official Offer of Place from the University of Auckland can you apply for the scholarship. Thus, you must first apply for admission ONLINE as an international applicant for one of the eligible programmes.
To apply for the scholarship, you will need to complete and submit the Asian Development Bank – Japan Scholarship application form and either post or courier with all required documents to the University. Applications for 2018 intake will close on 20 July 2017.

New Zealand International Doctoral Research Scholarships

Brief description:
The NZIDRS, funded by the New Zealand Government and administered by Education New Zealand, provides scholarships for international students to undertake PhD study at a New Zealand university.

Relevant PhD Degree Programme in any discipline offered by participating Universities in New Zealand

Target group:
International students who are not citizens or permanent residents of New Zealand or Australia.
Scholarship value/inclusions/duration:
The NZIDRS covers the following for a TOTAL of three years: university tuition fees and associated student levies, an annual living stipend of NZ$25,000 (tax-free), and medical insurance coverage up to NZ$600 annually.
Eligibility:
You must meet ALL five eligibility criteria. These criteria are non-negotiable.
  1. You must hold a minimum grade equivalent to a GPA of 3.7 on a 4.0 scale OR an A to A+ average in your most recent or highest post graduate tertiary qualification
  2. You must have a confirmed, non-conditional offer of place for a (direct-start) PhD programme at a New Zealand university
  3. If you have commenced your PhD studies in New Zealand, your start date must be after 1 July 2016
  4. You must conduct your PhD study in New Zealand (not from a distance)
  5. You must not hold citizenship or PR status in New Zealand or Australia.
