Commonwealth Scholarships for Developing Commonwealth Countries


Brief description:
Commonwealth Scholarships for Master’s and PhD study in the UK are offered for citizens of developing Commonwealth countries. These scholarships are funded by the UK Department for International Development (DFID).
Host Institution(s):
You are requested to apply for a course of study at  UK universities with which the CSC has a part funding agreement.
Level and Field(s) of study:
Masters (one-year courses only) or PhD Programmes in all subject areas offered at participating UK Universities. The CSC’s selection criteria give priority to those applications that demonstrate strong relevance to development.
Number of Scholarships:
Approximately 300 of these scholarships are awarded each year.

The scholarships are targeted to citizens of Developing Commonwealth Countries.
Scholarship value/inclusions:
Each Scholarship provides airfare to and from United Kingdom, tuition and examination fees, personal maintaining allowance, thesis grant (if applicable), initial arrival allowance, among others. Please see the 2017 Commonwealth Scholarship Prospectus for full scholarship benefits.
Eligibility:
To apply for the awards covered in this prospectus, candidates should:
• Be a Commonwealth citizen, refugee, or British protected person
• Be permanently resident in a developing Commonwealth country
• Be available to commence their academic studies in the United Kingdom by the start of the UK academic year in September/October 2017
• By October 2017, hold a first degree of upper second class Honours standard (or above); or a second class degree and a relevant postgraduate qualification (usually a Master’s degree).
Application instructions:
The CSC cannot accept any applications direct from candidates for these scholarships. All applications must be made through your nominating agency (or university/university body, if applicable) in your home country. You must check with them in the first instance for their specific advice and rules for applying, and for their own closing date for applications.
You must make your application using the CSC’s Electronic Application System (EAS), in addition to any other application form that you are required to complete by your nominating body. Your application must be submitted to and endorsed by one of the approved nominating bodies. All applications must be submitted by 23.59 (GMT) on 15 November 2016 at the latest.

Denmark Government Scholarships for Non-EU Students

Brief description:
The Denmark Government welcomes highly qualified and motivated international students from all over the world to study in Denmark. A number of scholarships are therefore offered each year by the Danish Ministry of Education to fund students from countries outside the European Union/ European Economic Area. The scholarships can be awarded for a full degree higher education programme.

•  A citizen of a country outside the European Union (EU) and the European Economic Area (EEA) or Switzerland.

The scholarships are administered by the Danish institutions of higher education, each of which decides which students will receive a scholarship. Fulbright Foreign Student Program in USA

Brief description:
The Fulbright Foreign Student Program enables graduate students, young professionals and artists from abroad to study and conduct research in the United States at U.S. universities or other academic institutions.

Fully and Highly Funded Scholarships at King Abdullah University of Science and Technology

Brief description:

There are six components to the KAUST Fellowship application, including:
  • Statement of purpose
  • Curriculum vitae (CV)
  • University provided official copy of Transcripts / Mark sheets/ Graduation Certificate/ Academic Record from every institution previously attended. 
  • A scan of the transcript provided by the university in the native language must be uploaded into the online application form along with the certified English translation. Your transcript must include the university grading scale for all documents submitted. If offered admission, an official final transcript must be sent to the Office of Admissions prior to arrival (during the onboarding process) in a sealed envelope.
  • Three letters of recommendation
  • A score of 79 on the TOEFL IBT (Internet Based Test) or 6.0 on the IELTS is required (A TOEFL or IELTS score is not required if the applicant received a degree from an accredited institution in the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Ireland, Australia, or New Zealand.)
  • Official GRE scores (GRE submission is strongly encouraged and will enhance your application, but it is not a compulsory requirement for consideration.)

University of Newcastle Postgraduate Research Scholarships

Brief description:
Prospective and current research students are eligible to apply for University and Commonwealth Government scholarships, which are awarded during two rounds to domestic and international applicants.

A scholarship funded by the University of Newcastle or the Commonwealth Government provides an annual living allowance $26, 288 per annum (2016 rate – indexed annually). The scholarship may also include:

  • • a thesis allowance (up to $500)
  • • a full tuition fee scholarship (international students)
  • • overseas student health cover (OSHC) (international students)
PhD scholarships are for three years and Masters scholarships are for two years, less any tenure already completed towards a research degree.

  • • satisfy the English proficiency requirement (IELTS of at least 6.5)
  • • have a current offer of admission into a research higher degree.

  • • be no more than two full-time equivalent years into their PhD (or one year for Masters) at the latest outcome date for the round in which they are applying.
Successful international scholarship candidates usually also have:
  • • A master degree with strong research component
  • • International peer reviewed research publication or research experience

TU Delft Excellence Scholarships for International Students

Brief description:
The Delft University of Technology offers a number of excellence scholarship programs for international students. The Justus & Louise van Effen Scholarship is one of those programs and it aims to financially supporting excellent international MSc students wishing to study at TU Delft.

Westminster International Scholarships

Brief description:
Westminster International Scholarships are fully funded awards aimed at students from developing countries who wish to study a full-time Masters degree at the University.
